Communications Coordinator

Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) is a Rural Electric Cooperative serving parts of Jefferson, Grainger, Hamblen, and Sevier counties in East Tennessee. We currently have an opportunity for a Communications Coordinator in our New Market, Tennessee office.  AEC offers a highly competitive benefits program.

The Communications Coordinator will support the day-to-day operations of AEC’s communication efforts. This position will support the cooperative’s overarching communication goals of program transparency and increasing awareness of AEC, our mission, programs, and procedures among our core target audiences.

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for creating and editing written communication and content for the co-op, including but not limited to marketing communications,  magazine articles, newsletters, and advertisement copy
  • Provides creative design and editing support for special projects and publications to accurately deliver the co-op message
  • Works with agencies to coordinate advertising and design to ensure accurate co-op messaging; proofs documents and publications
  • Participates in Member Services events such as festivals, fairs, home shows, and other special events.
  • Assists with photography, website, and social media content for AEC events
  • Supports department calls addressing member questions and concerns regarding services
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and video editing programs
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and assignments
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding AEC proprietary information and other department information

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, journalism or marketing
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required
  • Prior experience in a utility desirable

Outside Plant (OSP) Technician

Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) is a Rural Electric Cooperative serving parts of Jefferson, Grainger, Hamblen, and Sevier counties in East Tennessee. We currently have an opportunity for an Outside Plant Technician our New Market, Tennessee office. AEC offers a highly competitive total compensation package.

The Outside Plant Technician is responsible for the effective installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of fiber to the x (FTTx) outside plant including but not limited to fiber optic cables, drop cables, optical splitters, and associated equipment. 

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with additional training in electronics, engineering, networking or telecommunications preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience with the installation and operation of FTTx components including but not limited to central office, transport, feeder, distribution, drops, cabinets, splitters, ONTs, splice points, jumpers, hand holes, and pedestals
  • Have or acquire the skills and techniques necessary to distinguish exposed live parts from other parts of electric equipment, determine the nominal voltage of exposed live parts, and the clearance distances
  • Strong working knowledge of OTDR operation and testing, light testing, fiber troubleshooting and fiber plant design
  • Able to splice fiber using industry standards
  • Must hold a valid Tennessee Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B), or possess the ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days hire and maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Certification through the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) as a Fiber Optics Installer (ETA FOI) and a Fiber Optics Technician – Outside Plant (ETA FOT-OSP) or ability to become certified within 12 months.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform all necessary activities in the installation, maintenance, repair and ongoing operations of the outside fiber plant used to deliver residential and commercial services
  • Scope jobs for direct installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and commercial accounts and fiber plant extensions
  • Provide timely and courteous service and communication to members, coworkers and the general public
  • Mandatory on-call duty with overtime and on-call shift rotations are required
  • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 100 lbs with assistance
  • Requires climbing and working in high places

Full time residence must be within 30 minutes of the Cooperative main office within 90 days of hire

Information Technology (IT)

Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC) provides electric service to 47,000 members in  East Tennessee—including homes, farms, businesses, and industries. We own and maintain an electric distribution system that covers 600 square miles in parts of Grainger, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, and Sevier counties.

We currently have an opportunity for an Information Technology (IT) Specialist in our New Market, Tennessee office. The IT Specialist provides professional support for a wide range of technologies used by the Cooperative’s end users.

Job Qualifications

  • 2 years experience working in a help desk or technical support environment, customer service or administrative role
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field desirable
  • A+ and Network+ certifications desirable

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical needs of end users including; but not limited to; answering how-to questions, providing system and network status, and troubleshooting various technologies
  • Responsible for documenting support requests received via email, telephone, electronic ticketing systems, etc.
  • Installation, maintenance, and configuration of Cooperative technologies including workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices
  • Available for overtime as required including assisting outside of normal work hours during emergency or outage situations
  • Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 12 feet
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
  • The position requires frequently lifting, push/pulling and/or carrying 10-20 lbs., and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Full time residence must be within 30 minutes of the Cooperative main office within 90 days of hire
